These gasses trap infra-red radiation in the atmosphere resulting in global warming. In effect, the greenhouse gasses act like a blanket preventing heat loss, warming the atmosphere.
As the average temperature of the planet increases a number of changes can occur such as changes in weather patterns developing more flooding, drought, violent storms, hurricanes and typhoons. Extinction of species can also occur because of the overall warming of the planet, and natural resources are depleting as we continue to waste energy.
